Existential Psychotherapy in Brighton, Hove and Horsham

Low Self-Esteem

You have low confidence, you find it difficult to think well of yourself, sometimes difficult to think of yourself at all. There are possibly many situations in which you feel that, due to your poor self-esteem, you are unable to contribute and this is holding you back.

The fact that you are investigating the effects and possible solutions for low self-esteem demonstrates that you are aware of a potential of yours that is being restrained by these confidence issues. If only you had the courage to speak up, you would find that relationship, get that job or finally have someone listen to you and your needs.

Improving Self-Esteem

As an existential counsellor, when I work with an issue like poor self-esteem I want to know how it presents itself to those around you. Do you keep quiet when you feel like shouting, do you let people know how little you think of yourself or maybe even encourage them to run you down? If so, then we need to consider when these types of communication have been useful to you in the past - perhaps being successful came at too high a price within your childhood home, perhaps you survived difficult times in your life by not being noticed. Once we have begun to discover how your attitude towards yourself has helped you, we can then reconsider if and how you want to alter your confidence and self-esteem.
